Who This Group Is For
This group is for parents in New York or Connecticut who:
Feel stuck in recurring meltdowns, arguments, or power struggles
Struggle with transitions, routines, homework, bedtime, or getting out the door
Have tried strategies that were difficult to maintain or did not fit their child
Want to better understand what is driving their child’s behavior
Want practical guidance and support from parents facing similar challenges
Your child does not need a formal diagnosis to participate. The group is designed for parents of children whose needs may be related to ADHD, emotional regulation, executive functioning, sensory differences, or other forms of neurodivergence.
What You Can Expect
The goal is not to become a perfectly consistent parent or eliminate every difficult behavior. It is to help you respond with greater understanding, flexibility, and confidence.
Through the group, you can develop:
A clearer understanding of your child’s patterns, needs, and triggers
Practical strategies for recurring challenges at home
More effective ways to respond to emotional and behavioral escalation
Greater consistency without relying on rigid parenting rules
Support from parents who understand how complicated this can be
Rather than receiving generic advice, you will look closely at what is happening in your family and identify an approach that is realistic for your child, your circumstances, and your capacity.
What We Do Each Week
Each session combines support, collaborative problem-solving, and practical planning.
Each week, the group will:
Check in about challenges and successes from the past week
Identify patterns and explore what may be contributing to difficult behavior
Discuss and adapt strategies for your child and circumstances
Choose one manageable approach to practice during the coming week
Review what happened and adjust the plan as needed
Parenting and neurodivergence-related topics are introduced in response to the group’s needs and woven into the discussion. The group is structured, but there is also room to bring in what is happening in your family that week.
Meet the Group Leader
The group was developed and is led by Dr. Alisa Powers, a clinical psychologist who specializes in working with children, adolescents, and families affected by ADHD and related challenges.
