Parenting Support
Sessions
When the usual parenting advice doesn’t fit your child, it can be hard to know what to try next.
These are sessions for parents seeking support in their own right. Your child does not need to be in therapy with us. Together, we can make sense of recurring challenges, consider your child’s needs, and develop responses that fit your family.
What We Can Help With
Parenting sessions offer space to understand what is difficult, consider your child’s needs alongside your own, and develop responses that work for your family.
Responding to big emotions
Meltdowns, arguments, or difficulty recovering from frustration can leave you unsure how to respond. We help you recognize patterns, support your child through strong emotions, and set limits in ways they can understand.
Knowing when to hold a limit or adapt
It can be difficult to tell when your child needs more support, a different expectation, or a firm boundary. We help you make sense of these moments and develop an approach that balances flexibility with consistency.
Making daily routines more manageable
Mornings, homework, bedtime, and transitions can become recurring sources of friction. We work with you to identify where things get stuck and adjust routines, expectations, and supports to fit your child’s needs.
Changing patterns of conflict
Repeated reminders, escalating arguments, or withdrawing from each other can leave everyone frustrated and disconnected. We help you understand these cycles, practice different responses, and find ways to reconnect after difficult moments.
Managing your own reactions
When you’re stretched thin, it can be harder to respond the way you intend. We help you understand what triggers frustration, work through guilt or uncertainty, and develop ways to respond that account for your needs and limits.
Getting on the same page as parents
Different expectations or approaches to parenting can make difficult moments more complicated. We help you clarify priorities, work through disagreements, and develop a more consistent approach while making room for differences.
What It’s Like to Work Together
We begin with what has been difficult and what you would like to change. We consider your child’s development, temperament, and needs alongside your own experiences and the demands on your family. Together, we look for patterns that help explain why certain moments keep becoming difficult.
Sessions focus on situations from your daily life. We might work through a recent conflict, plan for a challenging transition, or practice how to communicate an expectation. We also make room for the feelings these moments bring up for you and how they shape your responses.
From there, we develop practical approaches to try at home and revisit them together. What helped? What was hard to carry out? What needs adjusting? The aim is to build a clearer understanding of your child and greater confidence in responding, with strategies you can realistically sustain.
